Championships

On behalf of El Posse Grande, welcome to the Northeast Regional Championship. We're honored to bring this match to North Mountain Sportsman's Association, and we've spent the better part of a year building a theme we think you're going to love because it's a story that's been sitting in our own backyard the whole time.

East Made. West Famous.

When most folks picture the Old West, they picture Colorado canyons, Arizona dust, and Texas cattle drives. Fair enough, that's where the legend played out. But we started digging into where the gear actually came from, and the answer surprised us: almost none of it came from the West at all.

The Colt Single Action Army and the Winchester '73, the guns that defined the frontier, were designed and built in Hartford and New Haven, Connecticut. The Stetson hat was invented by a New Jersey-born hatter and mass-produced out of a factory in Philadelphia. The Conestoga wagon, ancestor of the wagons that rolled across the plains, was built by Pennsylvania German craftsmen in Lancaster County. Even the stagecoach, the Concord coach, the one in every Western film ever made, came out of a workshop in Concord, New Hampshire. Wells Fargo was founded by two New Yorkers who'd never set foot west of Buffalo when they started the company.

The West won the glory. But the East forged the tools. That's the idea behind this year's match, and it's why we've chosen "Where the Legends Were Forged" as our theme for the Northeast Regional Championship, a celebration of just how much of the "Wild West" actually started right here in our own region.

The Wild Bunch Territorial Championship — "Forged With Fire"

New this year, we're proud to feature the Wild Bunch Territorial Championship. It turns out this category has its own tight Northeastern pedigree: the 1911 and the Model 97 were both born in Connecticut gun shops less than a county apart, and many Wild Bunch shooters carry on the tradition of Theodore Roosevelt's own Rough Riders by wearing the campaign-style "Rough Rider" hat, a fitting nod to a man who was born in New York City and became President of the United States in the middle of the Adirondack wilderness.

We chose the tagline "Forged With Fire" for this match because it captures both the literal blacksmith's forge our theme keeps circling back to, and the spirit of a category built for shooters who like their competition fast, loud, and a little bit rowdy.

Why It Matters

We didn't build this theme just to have something clever for the flyer. We built it because we think it says something true and worth remembering: the Old West wasn't a self-contained story. It was built by hands, forges, and factories thousands of miles away, many of them right here in Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut. When you load a Colt or a Winchester at this match, sling a Stetson-style hat, or watch a wagon roll by, you're holding a small piece of Northeastern history that just happened to go on to become legend somewhere else.

We hope that story adds something to your weekend, whether you're chasing the clock, chasing the Top Cowboy and Top Cowgirl titles, or just soaking in a posse full of good people living out the Spirit of the Game.

We can't wait to see you at North Mountain this Memorial Day weekend.

Straight shooting,

Black Hills Barb, Match Director, Northeast Regional Championship 2027
